Hotel Arctic - Ilulissat
Hotel Arctic is the World’s most northerly four star hotel with a five star conference centre. The hotel offers you the highest standards of service and facilities. Right on the edge of the Ilulissat Ice Fiord the hotel presents a stunning view over the mouth of the fiord and the submarine moraine, where the largest icebergs ground on the submerged moraine, before moving further towards the Disko Bay.
If you have booked a Cruise & Hotel package, the hotel provides shuttle service to Disko Line ferries as well as to the airport. At the hotel you have the choice between two fine restaurants, described below.
Café Ferdinand: Café Ferdinand is the simple and easy alternative to Restaurant Ulo. You can just pop in here and have cold drinks after all the exertions of the day, enjoy cakes with coffee and tea with a fantastic view as well - or end the evening with a light meal and a drink before saying goodnight.
Hotel Arctic has 21 Umiaq rooms, all with views of the sea and icebergs. These are the hotel’s newest rooms and they are of a very high, international standard. Features include a 32" Philips TV, mini bar, café set with coffee and tea, and bathrobe. The elegant bathrooms have shower stalls in glass and bidets.
The Umiaq rooms are located in the new wing of the same name. Umiaq is the Greenlandic word for the traditional women’s boat. Breakfast is included.
The gourmet cuisine of Restaurant Ulo is recognized as one of the very best in the whole country. The chefs are masters in their fields and use only the very finest Greenlandic and international ingredients. At the same time the experience is spiced by an unforgettable view from the restaurant: Ilulissat harbour and life on the waters of Disko Bay among the gigantic icebergs.
Ilulissat is situated next to icefiord/Kangia. The Icefiord became one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 2004 and is the birthplace of the massive collection of icebergs that have calved from the Sermeq Kujalleq glacier, one of the most productive glaciers in the world. It advances at a rate of 20 metres per day and produces around 10% of all Greenland icebergs.
Ilulissat is the third-largest town in Greenland, also called Jakobshavn. Only the capital Nuuk and Sisimiut are larger. The town was founded a Danish merchant Jacob Severin and houses 5.000 inhabitants and 4.000 sledge dogs.
